Hurricane season runs from June through November. Longboat Key Fire Chief Paul Dezzi suggests that to get through a hurricane season people need to “be prepared, stay informed and leave in an evacuation.” Dezzi suggests arranging ahead of time for a place to stay; with friends, at a hotel or as a last resort in a shelter. It is important to get off the Key early, if the first responders are leaving, it’s too late.
The police department is in charge of evacuation, security and re-entry.
A web site for the town of Longboat Key will feature information about what to do before, during and after a storm. Important information during tropical storms and hurricane event updates will be posted on the website to provide information about storm conditions and evacuations.
