Red Tide – 08/07/2018

Red Tide began affecting us at the end of July and we have now had our first fish kill.

We sent the following message to all guests with upcoming reservations:

You are scheduled to arrive here in the next few days. We just want to give you a heads up that we currently have red tide categorized as “moderate” according to the news. We are experiencing a fair number of dead fish and of course the smell is not pleasant.

We have adopted the following policy:

1. If you choose to cancel your reservation, you can move your deposit to a future reservation for up to one year in the same unit.
2. If a choose to come and then leave early due to Red Tide, you will be given a gift certificate for your unused nights on a return visit within one year in the same unit.

Red Tide is affecting all of the beaches in our immediate area at least as far south as Venice and as far north as Longboat Key. If you travel inland to Sarasota or Bradenton, the Red Tide is not noticeable and there are many things to do, such as Sarasota Jungle Gardens, TreeUmph Adventure Course (zip lining and climbing), Ringling Museum, The Mall at University Town Center (UTC), Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Spanish Point, dozens of art galleries and antique shops, the opera, symphony, ballet and numerous live theater groups.
