Pygmy Whale on Our Beach – 09/04/2018

On September 4, this Pygmy Whale washed up on our beach early in the morning. Mote was called, they advised to be sure his blow hole was not blocked and to keep him wet. We did that by using a bucket and a waste basket. Mote arrived after about 30 minutes and took him to their laboratory to nurse him back to health.

We were told that two pygmy whales washed up on Clearwater Beach, they were named Lightning and Thunder and were taken to Mote as well. The one on our beach was named Bolt. Lightning and Thunder both died on September 5 and Bolt died on the 7th.
